TIE-Kolkata and NEN in collaboration conducts a Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program , for the 1st time in Bengal.

TIE-kolkata for the 1st time in Bengal , is building a valuable platform for searching entrepreneurial spark , in young entrepreneurs, by introducing a Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program (BETSP). Being implemented in a grander scale, TiE Kolkata collaborated with National Entrepreneurship network (NEN), taking the Talent Search Program to a different league of its own, in terms of scale, scope and seriousness.

This ‘Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program’ will be focused in Bengal and shortlist 30 candidates who have entrepreneurial spark on them , out of numerous candidates who will be joining from different parts of Bengal at 9-00 am of 21st January ,2008 (Monday) on Rotary Sadan kolkata. This 30 candidates will have an extensive mentoring session , by non other than , legendary successful entrepreneur Phillip C Holland, founder of Yum-Yum Donuts, a chain of doughnut shops based in California. This would be followed by a 2-day Boot Camp entitled as “Entrepreneur’s life cycle” which will describe the different phases of Entrepreneurship from pre-birth to birth , growth, success and exit on 1-2 February 2008 at the Hotel Oberoi Grand, Kolkata. The camp would provide training and mentoring on how these ‘Entrepreneurial spark’ could be sharpened and translated into a real time entrepreneur. The faculty would be internationally acclaimed persons and successful entrepreneurs.

The National Entrepreneurship Network, with its prominent presence across 291 member institutes across the nation and relationships with corporate leaders, is going to be extensively involved in increasing outreach of the program. According to Miss Laura Parkin, the Executive Director at NEN/Wadhwani foundation, “NEN is delighted to partner with TiE Kolkata, on nurturing the Entrepreneurial spark in Bengal through Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program(BETSP) followed by “Your Own Business “ and “Entrepreneur’s lifecycle program” which will lead to TiEGer Club Awards . This series of program one after another will create a momentum for “Entrepreneurship in Bengal”

The best ‘entrepreneurial spark’ will be selected by a rigorous procedure of BETSP,starting with the submission of resume and business summary, followed by a ‘MCQ Written Examination’ , GD/Presentation alongwith PI in the front of a eminent jury panel from successful Entrepreneurs of TiE Kolkata.

. The Educational Programs is situated amidst a two day entrepreneurial conference and TiEger Awards ceremony held by the TiE Kolkata. “We want students to give a career option . A Choice . Whether they want to be ‘employed by people’ or ‘employ people’. We’re instituting the TiEger Cub awards for the young aspiring entrepreneurs ‘who have a spark’, from the Bengal region towards improving the entrepreneurial culture in Bengal and the selection for that will happen through the Bengal Entrepreneurial Talent Search Program (BETSP) ” says Shoummo Acharya of President, TiE, Kolkata.

On the base of the participation in this TiE Kolkata’s Education and mentoring programs in 24th January ,2008 (My Own Business) and 1st February,2008 ( Entrepreneurial lifecycle ) there will be 2 people short listed, who would be awarded by TiEGER Club award.The award will be handed over by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Government of West Bengal, Shri. TIEGER’08 Business Plan Competetion winning team will be a set of resolute entrepreneurs with a sound plan, who will need to hold their ground steadfastly under tough scrutiny. Success at the final level at TIEGER ’08 would be a definite stamp of validation for him to seek further partners and investors as we would train and expose him enough to face the future, much better prepared and much more confident. And in order to ensure that this prediction goes right, we have made sure that the filtering and selection process we will use in TIEGER ’08 will be rigorous and nothing short of perfect.

Stages of TIEGER’08 Business Plan Competetion:

Launch of the event: November 24th, 2007

Stage 1: Submission of Executive summary with team profile and statement of purpose

Executive Summary Deadline: December 14th, 2007

Announcement of selected plans: December 31st, 2007

Stage 2: A pitch to a panel of investors in Calcutta

Pitch: January 14th'08 (in Calcutta)

Announcement of teams for the Grand Finale: January 16th, 2007

Mentoring:

Mentoring of the final 10 teams: January 16th – January 31st.

Stage 3: Grand Finale – A detailed presentation to a panel of investors

Grand Finale: February 1st, 2008

Pitch Stage

1.The shortlisted teams from the first round will be required to present their business
concept in the city in their respective zone.

2.The shortlisted teams must confirm their participation within two days of receiving the
results of the first stage, or the next best teams shall be included for the presentations.

3.The second round involves a 10 minute pitch to a panel of judges that would include a
representative from Seedfund and representatives from partner organizations.

4. The shortlisted teams from stage 2 will be allotted multiple mentors depending on their industry and investment requirement. Extensive arrangements for online and offline mentoring shall be made besides access to resources to develop the comprehensive business plan according to investor expectations.

Grand Finale Stage Page:

1. The Grand finals are scheduled to be held on Feb 1 in Calcutta.
2. The teams will be required to make a presentation for 20 minutes plus 10 minutes or Q
& A.

Depending on the interest of the jury and investors, there could be separate interactions arranged between the aspiring entrepreneurs and the panel members to share further details and work out a deal if deemed appropriate.

TIEGER'08 - A brief Summary

TIEGER'08 is an International Event on Entreprenuerial Awareness and Celebration of Entreprenuership in Eastern India. This Event is Jointly Organised by TIE-kolkata,IIM-Calcutta,Seedfund,IISc Bangalore,NEN & IIT-Kharagur.

In Eastern India , Entreprenuership and wealth creation is not celebrated as much as it is in other parts of India. This event is focussed to change that perception and create more awareness on Entreprenuership and celebrate the profession of Entreprenuership in Eastern India.

Through this blog and through other online mediums the TIEGER'o8 organiser will provide Practical Guidance , Education , Coaching and Mentoring on Entrepreneurship to young aspiring entreprenuers from successful entrepreneurs , academicians , consultants and create more awareness on Entreprenuership.

TIEGER'o8 organiser will help to kick start Entrepreneurial Endeavour in Eastern India through Business planning competetion and raising capital by presenting the wining Business plans to our partner Angel Investor organisation Seedfund , who will provide seedfunds to the winner of the Business Plan competetion.

As Entreprenuership is a long term process TIEGER'o8 will be followed by a follow up process ensuring the long term success on the scope of the event.
